SURFING IN A CHANGING WORLD
Surfer vs Planet (formerly Wavechanger) is an ongoing research-driven project that shares insights, ideas and innovations designed to spark conversation and accelerate positive change in the surf industry. Showcasing the latest developments from around the globe, from backyard shapers to big brands, and everything in between, to help the sport tread more lightly on our planet.
PRODUCT STEWARDSHIP
At its core, Surfer vs Planet is about product stewardship - taking responsibility for the boards, wetsuits and gear that enable our time in the ocean. Through research and storytelling, Surfer vs Planet connects those responsibilities to practical pathways for industry change. We're advocating for responsible consumer behaviours and conscientious design and manufacturing, with an eye on improving the end-of-life phase.
THE BLUEPRINT
A practical, easy-to-read guide for surfers and industry professionals looking to reduce environmental impact and move beyond surface-level sustainability claims. Rather than promoting a single solution, it explores emerging innovations, industry certifications, people-led initiatives, cross-industry ideas, and future pathways for a more responsible surf industry.
THE CARBON COST OF SURFBOARDS
The first report of it's kind - we dig into what really goes into a surfboard’s environmental footprint, using life-cycle research to follow a board from materials to disposal. With an average footprint of around 165 kg CO₂e, it offers a practical baseline for industry conversations and change.
CHOOSE BETTER
Watch our original short film by Surfers for Climate that showcases the innovative work of shaper Gary McNeill and surfer Dave Rastovich. Over the course of seven years, these two pioneers dedicated themselves to revolutionising surfboard construction, aiming to enhance durability and reduce environmental impact without sacrificing performance.
